OBJECT SKETCHES.
Based on the Fantasy Meal Story you wrote, and using the Object Sketches Template aiicon hand-draw objects/characters from your story in a CONTOUR style as discussed in lecture. Here is a sample of Object Sketches aiicon. The sketches MUST BE DONE BY HAND and they must be your own drawings. You can do Google image research for objects to see what objects really look like and to get inspired when you draw your own but dont copy. When finished, scan or take a picture for submission.

  TWO COMPOSITION SKETCHES.
Considering the objects from your story and your storyline in general, print 2 of the Full Scale 8"x10″ Composition Sketches Template aiicon and draw 2 different draft compositions in contour format. Here is a Sample Composition Sketch aiicon. Remember your compositions can capture a moment in your story (like a scene) and be like a movie poster and somehow capture the general storyline. At this point, they do not need to be exactly the same as your story, you can add or take away objects or ideas so that the composition works, but they should relate and must capture the idea of "fantasy" and "meal".

If you're stuck, look at more Student Samples aiicon and consider our homework lecture on composition sketches and what makes a strong composition (Framing, hierarchy, variation, similarity, bleeding and close cropping, etc).

When finished, scan or take a picture for submission.

  PICK 1 COMPOSITION TO REFINE.
Based on instructor feedback from last week's homework, pick one composition to Refine. If you've been told that one is working "as is", then you may begin digitally tracing that image in illustrator instead of waiting until next week to begin, and you can simply upload the same composition sketch to Laulima's WEEK 3 Assignment aiicon.
Note: Look ahead to Week 4, for access to Project 1 Design templates and the lecture on How to begin.

HOWEVER, if you were suggested that some fixes,
please make those changes and resubmit your final composition by the due date. If you were told that none of the compositions are really working or that they need significant work, then you may consider combining the two ideas or creating an entirely new composition.

When you are finished, scan or photograph your compositions for submission.

  SOFTWARE OPTIONS:
USE LABS: You may access the Adobe Illustrator software and work for free in our Labs during Lab Hours to complete this week's and the rest of the project work.

USE 7-DAY FREE TRIAL: You may

PAY SINGLE APP 1 MO. SUBSCRIPTION:
Or if you prefer you may purchase and install only a 1 month subscription for an "Single App > Monthly Plan" (ILLUSTRATOR ONLY) for "Individuals" for $29.99 (this is your most affordable option considering you'll only need Photoshop for 1 month for this one project). There are other options for subscriptions that you may want to look into, but this is the one I recommend. **Don't forget to cancel after 30 days so you're not charged for another month.

  PROJECT 1 DRAFT TRACING
Using the Project 1 Design Template (vertical) aiicon or the Project 1 Design Template (horizontal) aiicon [right-click to download .ai file] begin (or continue) working on tracing your composition in Illustrator.

Don't worry about coloring at this point, instead worry about tracing and building/naming your layers appropriately. The Target should be to have it at least 75% traced by the end of this week.

It is ok if your drawing doesn't look super refined at this point you will have time to refine all next week after getting feedback from the instructor on what to improve.

If you have any questions, please type them in the body text box as you upload your original Illustrator .ai file.

This is a major part of your progress grade...something is better than nothing—load whatever you have!!

IMPORTANT NOTE: DO NOT use the Eraser Tool —and— DO NOT use the Delete Key to delete parts of an image, **INSTEAD USE MASKING**. Masking doesn't permanently damage/remove parts of your image.   CONTINUE DIGITALLY EXECUTING YOUR POSTER COMPOSITION.
Continue to digitally execute your composition idea considering your feedback and using the tools covered this week and in particluar some from last week (like your masking, adjustment layers, and blend mode options), that are very important, not only achieve the visual results you want, but TO ALSO DEMONSTRATE YOUR TECHNICAL COMPETENCY IN THE TOOLS COVERED THUS FAR.

DO NOT use the Eraser Tool —and— DO NOT use the Delete Key to delete parts of an image, **INSTEAD USE MASKING**. Masking doesn't permanently damage/remove parts of your image. With masking, you can always recall it back if you make a mistake or if I ask you to further modify something as part of your feedback. If you've already erased part of an image then delete that image from your layers, and bring in the original again and use the suggested masking method suggested instead.

Shoot for having your composition about 50% finished. With several images masked and several other of the tools covered thus far used. Also name your layers, and organize them by creating group folders as necessary and filing things in their respective folder as necessary.

It is ok if your composition doesn't look fully refined at this point, I realize it is a work in progress, you will have time to refine next week, after getting feedback from me on what to improve. But really focus on at least testing and demonstrating your skills learned from the tools covered thus far.

LATE ASSIGNMENTS SUBMISSIONS MUST BE CLEARED BY INSTRUCTOR—
If you think you might be late please contact me ASAP as final grades are due soon after submission and I need enough time to grade them, so arrangments need to be made.

Turn In All Required Components of Your Project via Laulima's WEEK 16/Finals Assignment,   UH File Dropand Vimeo as required, by NOON on Monday, May 8.

* You are uploading TWICE the amount as usual, so please account for double loading times (4-8 hours is typical depending on file sizes). I suggest you start turning in your project early in the day to avoid late penalties.

You may prefer to use both a combination of the computer labs and the 7-day trials to complete your work.

PAY SINGLE APP 1-MO. SUBSCRIPTION:

Or if you prefer you may purchase and install only a 1 month subscription for an "Single App > Monthly Plan" (for example Illustrator Only) for "Individuals" for $29.99 (this is your most affordable option considering you'll only need each software for 1 month for each project). There are other options for subscriptions that you may want to look into, but single app 1-month subcription is the one I recommend.
